We are located 12 miles south of South Bend, Indiana. We purchased our first Doberman back in 1978. She was our wedding gift to each other. Her name was Gypsy and we thought she was the most beautiful Doberman we had ever seen. Gypsy lived to be over 12 years old.
We decided to look for another Doberman in 2001 after our son had graduated and I found myself with some free time that I could devote to a special new family member.
I had become close friends with a neighbor who owned, trained and showed Dobes in Obedience. She was also active at that time in training and socializing puppies for the Pilot Program. The Pilot Program trains Seeing Eye dogs for the blind.
We started looking for a black, pet female that I could do Obedience with. I had a bad experience; not knowing any better, I purchased a back yard bred puppy that ended up having Auto Immune problems. I was heart broken when we lost her and so the search began for a reputable breeder. After waiting for a few months, we purchased on co/ownership a Red Show Prospect Male, who is now " UGRCH AKC Champion Windsong's Apollo Amoore, CGC,WAC,RN,RA,UCD,ROM". I have always loved animals and the thought of getting involved in showing interested me. I wanted to learn all there was about showing and get involved in all venues. Apollo is our pride and joy and has been the most wonderful dog. He is my once in a lifetime dog. I started attending dog shows before I brought Apollo home and we immediately started Conformation Classes once he was here. At 6 months and 2 weeks of age he won his first Major and we were bitten by the show bug. Apollo finished his Championship at 18 months of age. After finishing his AKC Championship he rested while I focused my time showing the two new additions to the family. Now Apollo and the girls are training in Agility, Rally and Obedience. We are also actively doing Therapy work at a couple of the local Nursing Homes. They Love visiting the elderly and Apollo is a hit with all the kids.
Our dogs are part of our family and are raised and live in our home with us. They are all Health tested for Von Willdebrands Disease (Vwd), Thyroid, OFA Hips and Elbows, and have all had an Echo,ECG, and Cardiac exam at the University of Illinois. We recently purchased a Holter and will be Holtering our dogs every 6 months.
We are both active members of the Echo Dog Club and St Joseph Valley Agility in Buchanan,Michigan and the Trail Creek Dog Training Club in LaPorte, Indiana. I am a member of the Michiana Kennel Club and the Doberman Pinscher Club of America.
A few times a year you will find me working as the Trial Secretary for UKC Conformation, Obedience, Rally & APDT Rally shows in the surrounding area. For the first time this year 09, I worked with the 4 H kids in Obedience and Showmanship. It was a very rewarding experience.
Our dogs are fed a Raw Diet.
